Amazing Fantasy

Amazing Fantasy #1 For the first time this week, we are switching it up! Yes, that’s right, with the very last Amazing Fantasy Comic that introduced our favorite web-slinger Spiderman coming out on the 15th of August of 1962, it comes in just a couple months before the next issue of the Fantastic Four. I’m sure yall were excited to see what happens next with the F4, but that will have to wait awhile. Today, we are getting the origin story of Spiderman. We are introduced to a young Peter Parker, the stereotypical nerd. He’s obsessed with science, loved by his uncle and aunt, and by teachers, but other kids make fun of him. Girls won’t even give him a chance, and he’s very resentful about it. When he goes to a science exhibit after school, he gets bitten by a radioactive spider that was experimented on.  He leaves the exhibit, citing that he feels very weird, just then a car almost hits him, but he jumps out of the way. Reflexes he didn’t have before. He figures out he can cli...

Issue #6

Issue #6 Right off the bat, this cover is insane. Two of the toughest opponents the F4 have ever faced on their own, teaming up. This is the first villain team up we have seen thus far from Marvel Comics. I also wonder if they are going to keep in the little Sub Mariner easter egg from the last issue, where the jewel that the F4 were forced by Doom to get crashed into the sea, and Torch asked Reed what they would do if Mariner ever got his hands on it. I guess we’ll see, in the Sep 1st, 1962 issue of the Fantastic Four.  We open with a crowd marveling (get it) at Torch and eventually Sue as they use their powers. It seems like they’re just showing off, but really they are scouting for signs of Doctor Doom. Sue goes inside their building to find a mail delivery dude trying to figure out how to open an elevator. Sue explains to him that there is a secret scanner on her belt that opens it for her only. We get a bit of a tour of their home, which has been upgraded. Reed has adde...

Issue #5

Issue #5 Today we are covering issue #5 of the Fantastic Four (I know we’ve been on them for awhile, but I’m just doing chronological order here). What’s really exciting about this one is that we are finally getting introduced to the F4’s most famous enemy: Dr. Doom. I’m expecting big things from this issue, which was published on July 1st, 1962. Let’s get into it.  We start off with Dr. Doom playing with F4 dolls and talking about how he’s going to defeat them, standard villain stuff. When we cut to the F4, we get a cheeky nod to the Incredible Hulk in the form of a comic Torch is reading, he even compares the Thing to the Hulk, a prelude to the many epic fights they will have. This was a little confusing to me because I didn’t think the Hulk even existed at this point, they don’t have any comics of him yet from when I checked. Maybe he was just an idea at this point? I really don’t know. Anyway, Thing gets mad at Torch for comparing him to a comic book monster, and takes i...

Issue #4

Sorry that it's been a couple days, today I'll be covering issue 4, which came out May 1st, 1962.  When we last left off, Torch had just left the F4, but based on this cover, he came back. This is likely because Sue (his sister) gets in danger. We also see that the villain is most powerful underwater, so it'll be curious to see how they handle someone like that.  So, we start off with the remainder of the F4 trying to figure out where Torch is, Thing doesn’t want to find him, while Sue and Reed do, and say that the Thing is going to help. Thing threatens to hurt Torch when they find him, which Reed promises Sue is not going to happen.  The three of them separate in the Fantasticar to find Torch, Sue searches popular teen areas, Reed interrogates cyclists, but it’s the Thing of all people that proves he knows him the best, finding him in a small shed working on hot rods with his friends. Thing immediately moves to beat the Torch up, telling him he can’t afford to flame on ...

Issue #3

Issue #3 Welcome back to the third issue of this blog! Today we are reading the third Fantastic Four comic, published March 1st, 1962 (we will be reading F4 for quite a while).  Off the cover, the first thing I notice is that they have their now trademark uniforms for the first time ever, and they are also riding in a flying car, so that’ll be interesting to read, let’s get into it.  We start off with a performer known as the Miracle Man performing a show, and the F4 are watching it. Miracle Man calls them up one by one and attempts to show the crowd that the F4 are nothing compared to him. He taunts and insults the F4 as he performs a variety of magic tricks, growing in size, changing to solid gas, and having the ability to fly. The Thing challenges Miracle Man from the audience, and Miracle Man invites him up for a test of strength: who can break a log first. After much struggle, the Thing is finally able to do it, then the Miracle Man does it with one finger. The Thi...

Issue #2

Welcome back to the Reading Every Marvel Comic blog! Today, we are returning with the 2nd issue of the Fantastic Four. This issue debuted on New  Day in 1961.  As you may notice, this is the first mention of one of the Avengers best storylines: the Skrulls. Let's get into it. We open with each member of the Fantastic Four seemingly committing crimes, destroying and stealing rare and expensive items, and then using their powers to escape. We cut back to the four of them meeting up and talking about how the cops are now after them. We then see that these are not the real F4 (shocker) and that they are using other means to simulate the real F4's powers. They then transform into their real selves: Skrulls! Their plan was to get the people of Earth to kill the F4, then power on Earth could stop them from invading. We then cut to the real F4, hearing this news far away in a log cabin in the woods, everyone expects that Reed will figure out a solution, except the Thing, who grows cra...

Issue #1

Hey, comic book fans, thanks for reading the first post on this blog! On this blog, I am going to try to review every Marvel comic ever made, we’ll see just how far I get. But first, a little background about me. My name is Joshua. I've been a fan of the MCU since about 2017. I started off watching Marvel cartoons like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Ultimate Spiderman (two fantastic shows by the way). After that, I started moving into the main MCU films, like the Avengers movies and Thor: Ragnarok. When I watch a movie or show that I really like, one of the things I tend to do is look online and find analysis videos on it. This teaches me more about it, and I can find out what others feel about the topic in general (for example, I loved watching Daredevil this past year, and I found I’m far from the only one, and Thor: Love and Thunder is one of my favorite MCU movies, I found out that is not a popular opinion). One of the most common things I would see in these analysi...
